Barn Plans
Barns form an integral part of American agricultural history. They were a true depiction of the manner in which farming was conducted in America. Over the years, barns gradually faded out of the agricultural landscape and gave way to steel buildings as these were maintenance-free and easier to build.
Today, a revival of building barns has started. A lot of designers and architects have started promoting the concept of barns and also sell barn plans and complete kits on them. The internet is also a great source for barn plans.
Constructing your own barn can be a relatively easy job provided that you have the right knowledge to do so. This knowledge can be gained from the internet and books to start with and later, you can even talk to a designer or architect to get new ideas.
Not only are barns easy to build, but if properly planned, they can work out to be cheaper than metal buildings. There are certain important features in a barn which must be carefully looked into in order to give it a traditional feel. These include Z-braced barn doors, traditional window trims and also the roof. Normally, traditional barns were at least two storey buildings, with the roof high up and being steep as well.
If you want a simple and cheap barn, the cheapest barn is the pole barn. It is also called a post-frame construction. The foundation of this type of barn is based on several poles being stuck into the ground on which the flooring is laid.
Other types of barn construction include the light frame and the post and beam. These are differently styled. Choosing the style for your barn will depend upon your personal choice and needs. You can mix and match the styles and create a unique style of your own as well.
